Poor voter turnout 'is a wake-up call'

Reduced voter turnout at last May's local elections is a 'wake-up call' ahead of November's PCC elections, voting watchdogs have warned.

Reduced voter turnout at last May's local elections is a ‘wake-up call' ahead of November's police and crime commissioner (PCC) elections, voting watchdogs have warned.

Analysis undertaken by the Electoral Commission this week shows that although just below five million people voted on 3 May, turnout decreased by 4% – from 35.1% to 31.1% – when compared with equivalent elections held in 2008.
