Councils have seen an 85% increase in child protection plans over the decade, with poverty and poor housing among the key factor behind the rise.

A Local Government Association (LGA) poll of lead councillors for children's services found 70% identified poverty, poor housing and debt as factors behind the rise, while more than 80% identified domestic violence, substance misuse and offending as a central cause.
