Poverty truth commissions are not a talking shop

Andrew Grinnell says poverty truth commissions may not be the answer to the cost of living crisis, but they have led to positive changes, including a shift in the way councils communicate with citizens.

The outbreak of the COVID pandemic reminded us that wisdom comes in many forms.

We relied on the forecasting of epidemiologists to understand the nature of the challenge, the brilliance of NHS staff in treating those who were sick, and the local knowledge of public health teams, third sector organisations and faith communities in identifying the vulnerable people and communities that needed immediate support. But this is a far from exhaustive list. In each case, this wisdom has been formed through the experiences, education and environment of the individuals and organisations.
