Doncaster's directly-elected mayor, Peter Davies, has attacked a decision by energy ministers to scrap the planned Don Valley Power Project as ‘outrageous and beyond belief'.

In a letter to energy secretary, Ed Davey, Mr Davies questions the Government's commitment to carbon capture and storage programmes in light of the abolition of the planned local scheme, which had received €180m of EU funding and was at an advanced stage. Up to 4,700 jobs and £5bn in infrastructure investment were dependent on the project's completion, locals said.
