We don't want preference, just parity

Reflecting on the latest ranking of cities by wages, Cllr Alan Rhodes explains why a strong devolution deal is the ‘only hope’ for achieving equality between the South East, Midlands and North

I was saddened but not surprised to see Mansfield in Nottinghamshire on the list of UK cities with the lowest average wage rates in the country.

It was even less of surprise to see that nine of the 10 low wage locations listed in the Centre for Cities report are in the Midlands and the North, while eight of the 10 high wage places are in the South East of England, with two in Scotland.
