Authorities outside London are struggling to house local homeless families and deal with a predicted influx of ‘benefit refugees' from the capital, it has emerged.

Research by The Guardian newspaper on 5 November revealed that at least 17 out of London's 33 councils were placing homeless families outside the capital, or had secured or were considering temporary accommodation beyond London.
