Councils have called for the Government to continue to fund local welfare provision amid criticism that the consultation on its future is ‘unfair'.

The Government was forced to reconsider its decision to axe the local welfare assistance fund from April 2015 after a legal challenge from Islington LBC and the Child Poverty Action Group.
