Principal Advisor (APSE South and Southwest)

FIXED TERM 12 Months (May extend – based on performance)

In order to respond to the increasing demand for services and as part of APSE's strategy to support its membership in the south and south west, a vacancy has arisen for a post of Principal Advisor based in Oxford. APSE is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to bring a new range of skills to the existing team and fit within the current mix of portfolios.

APSE is the fastest growing local government networking organisation with a dynamic portfolio of services. APSE works with over 300 local authorities throughout the UK, specialising in supporting front line service delivery through advice, training, consultancy and benchmarking.

The Principal Advisor will provide a broad range of advisory, research and information services to APSE committees and member authorities, as well as having responsibility for coordinating and developing regional membership. Ideally, you'll currently be working within a local authority or other body engaged in one of the following areas: housing, highways, environment, facilities management, leisure on an operational or policy basis. Alternatively, you will have wide ranging local government experience of corporate strategy and be able to interpret and develop policy initiatives.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, self motivated and charismatic champion for APSE. He / she will be able to demonstrate a commitment to front line public services as well as the ability to network with colleagues and local government peers. The ability to present information clearly, orally and in writing, is also essential. All applicants should be educated to graduate level or equivalent.

The post is likely to be based in Oxford; the salary scale reflects the requirement for some out of hours working and a significant amount of travelling throughout the United Kingdom.

For an application pack, please visit the website. Closing date for the receipt of applications is 4pm on Friday 29th June 2012. It is anticipated that interviews will be held on Thursday 19th July 2012.

For further information or for an informal discussion about the post, please contact Mark Bramah, Assistant Chief Executive on 0161 772 1810 or email him here.
