The progression of the localism agenda

Equality impact assessments are just another obstacle on the road to progress, according to Sir Stephen Bubb.

Listening to the Prime Minister deliver his speech on removing ‘obstacles' to development last week, I couldn't help noticing the contrast with the rhetoric of the early days of the coalition.

Back then, the Government continually emphasised the right of citizens and communities to influence key decisions affecting them. Putting power into the hands of people and communities was, we were told, the heart of the Government's localism agenda.
