We know that mental ill-health can have significant and long-lasting impact on children's education, relationships and ultimately, their future prospects. Mental health conditions can also follow young people into adulthood, with half of all conditions beginning before the age of 14. Schools play a crucial role in prevention and early intervention; often creating a blueprint for emotional wellbeing in adulthood.
Our emotional resilience team works with teaching staff and other professionals to remove barriers to education for children and young people by providing emotional support, advice and guidance. The service works actively with our young people to improve resilience skills and emotional wellbeing using several strategies based on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and solution-focused approaches.
