Two leading property groups have called on the government to revalue business rates annually and decouple the charge from the Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation measure.

In a joint submission to the business rates consultation issued by the Treasury and the Department for Communities and Local Government, the British Property Federation (BPF) and British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) have urged reform of the current system they have warned could damage investment and long-term development.
