Experts have suggested the capacity of councils to support the local growth agenda is being curtailed.

The capacity of councils to support the local growth agenda is being curtailed by emergency measures to protect key education and care funding, experts have suggested.

Public spending statistics issued on 21 September show that authorities have increased levels of locally-raised funds by £11.2bn in response to £5.1bn worth of cuts to central government funding – from £81.9bn in 2010/11 to £76.8bn in 2011/12.
