The sector-led body responsible for most auditor appointments in local government bodies has questioned whether the Redmond reforms can be delivered quickly enough.

Sir Tony Redmond has said a single new audit oversight body, which would need primary legislation, employ around 30 staff and cost about £5m a year, was required because of the ‘lack of co-ordination and coherence in the whole audit function'.
