Public finances are slowly getting better

Public finances continue to marginally improve though the total debt level has edged up over last year according to official figures today raising questions about George Osborne's ambitious plans for a surplus by 2020.

Public finances continue to marginally improve though the total debt level has edged up over last year according to official figures today raising questions about George Osborne's ambitious plans for a surplus by 2020.

Public sector net borrowing decreased by £4.4bn since April compared to the previous financial year mainly due to a decrease in central government borrowing offset by a £1.6bn increase in local government borrowing.
