Public health funding 'must be ring-fenced'

Local government leaders tell a panel of MPs public health budgets should be ring-fenced until the place-based system has matured.

Public health budgets should be ring-fenced until the place-based system of community budgets has matured, local government leaders have told a panel of MPs.

Giving evidence to the Commons communities and local government committee on 3 December, the leader of Newcastle City Council, Cllr Nick Forbes, said that staff transferring to councils from the NHS needed certainty that public health would remain a national priority.
