Local government has been welcomed to the world of public health with Public Health England's handy new website on early mortality rates.

The Local Government Association has warned that it must not be used as a league table as the figures are far too complex, and require a detailed knowledge of local circumstances like deprivation indices. It is very sensible advice – but absolutely pointless as that is exactly how we will all use it.
