Public and private pay gap widens, official figures show

An ONS study has claimed the outsourcing of low-skilled jobs from the public to the private sector has helped widen the pay gap.

The outsourcing of low-skilled jobs from the public to the private sector has helped widen the pay gap in favour of government employees, an Office for National Statistics (ONS) study has claimed.

According to figures released today, the size of the pay difference between public and private sector employees increased from 5.3% in 2007 to 8.2% in 2011.
