Public sector job cuts hit England and NE hardest

England has experienced the greatest reduction in public sector jobs over the past four years, compendium of UK statistics shows.

England has experienced the greatest reduction in public sector jobs over the past four years out of all the countries that comprise the United Kingdom, official figures have shown.

According to the Office for National Statistics' compendium of UK statistics, an interactive comparison of social and economic indicators put out ahead of the Scottish independence referendum, the public sector workforce in England has shrunk by 10.9% over the last four years – with the North East bearing the highest regional workforce reductions.
