Public sector jobs down by 0.3% in a year - but NHS is up

MJ editorial director Michael Burton scrutinises the latest public sector employment figures.

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show total UK public sector employment fell by 103,000 in the first quarter of this year (Q1) compared to the final quarter of 2013 (Q4) that it is at its lowest since 1999 and that local government staffing has fallen by 27,000 while central government has increased by 14,000.
