Public sector unions will know by Wednesday if up to 750,000 teachers, civil servants and other public sector staff have given go-ahead for a mass 24-hour walkout over job cuts, pay freezes and rising pension costs.

Colleges, schools, tax-offices, courts and Jobcentre Plus offices will be among hundreds of public bodies across the country likely to be affected during the stoppage.
