Public sector workforce heading for record low

More than one in seven public sector jobs will be lost due to deficit reduction measures, the CIPD has claimed.

More than one in seven public sector jobs will be lost due to deficit reduction measures, shrinking the size of the government workforce to a 'record low', the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) has claimed.

Independent forecaster the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) produced figures last week showing central and local government are set to employ 700,000 fewer staff by the end of the spending review period in 2015.
