The new generation of metro mayors has widespread public support, a new poll has claimed.

A survey by think-tank Centre for Cities found 57% of residents in Greater Manchester, Merseyside, the West Midlands and the North East thought the new mayors should have greater powers than their local council leaders, with a quarter against the idea.
