Michael Gove's Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), is examining plans for councils in England to be given greater flexibility to use the money raised from property disposals to meet their budget pressures. A move that has been termed a ‘fire sale'.
These plans are in addition to a £64bn package promised to local councils (or a 6.5% funding increase), with an additional £1bn grant for social care, in 2024 to protect more from potentially needing to issue Section 114 notices.
