Money raised from developers through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) helps provide the fundamental facilities to support the impact of their schemes. Lewisham LBC adopted its current CIL charging schedule in 2015, and has collected £9.28m between 2015-16 and 2017-18 using the levy.
Until this July, the council has been able to set aside 15% of CIL receipts to spend in areas where development is taking place. Plans approved that month by the council mean that 25% will be allocated to neighbourhoods in Lewisham. Of this, half is spent where the development takes place, 25% will be allocated to areas based on the Indices of Multiple Deprivation and 25% will be allocated to a borough-wide fund.
