Putting homes at the heart of the agenda for growth

For the first time Hertfordshire CC is in a position to see a complete picture of the county’s growth over the next 20 years. Cllr Derrick Ashley explains.

Following the preparation of local plans by the 10 district councils within the county, it is clear Hertfordshire is entering a new stage of phenomenal growth. This poses both huge challenges and opportunities. This growth will require a substantial investment in infrastructure over the same period, especially in response to the necessary expansion of schools and the transport network throughout the county.

The plans forecast the creation of 91,000 homes and 92,000 new jobs over the next 20 years. In addition, a 20% increase in traffic is expected by 2031 – all of which will create huge infrastructure challenges for the county.
