PwC survey highlights expected growth of combined authorities

Combined authorities are expected to cover almost two-thirds of English local authorities by 2020, with one in five governed by an elected mayor, according to a survey of chief executives and leaders.

Combined authorities are expected to cover almost two-thirds of English local authorities by 2020, with one in five governed by an elected mayor, according to a survey of chief executives and leaders.

The poll found that a third believed their council will have more powers in the next five years – up from 22% three months ago – while six out of 10 agreed they would be part of a combined authority and 22% part of one with an elected mayor.
