High street guru Mary Portas has hit out at the government for failing to take on her plans to boost the retail economy in local areas. 

But while the government accepted the recommendations, she now says not enough is being done to improve the situation. She has also criticised the ‘crippling' business rates faced by small retailers, and has called for an urgent review.
