Wrapping up 18 years in local government, I have been mulling over what I learned and the challenges and opportunities ahead for local authorities.

I have worked with truly inspiring people, driven by public purpose. Even when circumstances mean people's best efforts inevitably fall short of what they wish they were able to achieve, they would still show up every day at work to make a difference.
