Suffolk CC is leading the way in promoting educational achievement for its young people. Cllr Gordon Jones explains the strategy

To drive improvements in educational attainment, in its latest Annual Report Ofsted implored councils, MPs and communities to work more closely, schools to collaborate more, and sought more effective recruitment campaigns to secure excellent teaching staff.

Faced with ongoing budget reductions and a clear government policy to switch to totally academy-based education, the appetite of local authorities to mount major programmes to improve educational attainment might be limited.
