LGA chief executive John Ransford has defended council bosses' use of personal expenses as 'part and parcel of the job' following a major investigation by The Daily Telegraph.

Findings from an extensive Freedom of Information campaign trawling 340 councils showed local authority chief executives had since 2008 charged £2.6m expenses to corporate credit cards, around £1.2m since May 2010.
