Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has paved the way for a return to remote meetings and giving local authorities the power to suspend badly-behaving councillors.

Speaking at the Local Government Association's annual conference, Rayner argued it was not Whitehall's place to decide whether councillors should attend meetings remotely, adding: ‘It's right that we make it easier for more people to get involved in making their community a great place to live.'
