Reaping the benefits of a whole-service approach

Leigh Zywek describes how a programme of long-term support for a young mother is making a vital difference.

It was when a social worker heard a struggling young mum say: ‘Everyone lets you down in the end...I trust no one', that the team began to use a different method of finding the root cause of her need for help. This led to an innovative new approach.

Those bleak words were said by a mother whose parenting was compromised by her depression, social isolation, substance misuse and a poor parenting template.
