Reducing Hull's flood risk

Mark Jones describes how the Living with Water partnership has protected the area since 2007’s flood damage across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Anyone who lived through the flooding in Hull 15 years ago knows what a terrible impact it can have on people's homes and lives.

On 25 June 2007, a ‘once in 150 years' storm led to widespread flooding across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The Geography Department at the University of Hull recorded rainfall of 110mm over 24 hours. To put that into context, about 70mm usually falls on Hull in the entire month of June.
