Councils will be given a slice of the foreign aid budget to help them house refugees from Syria and North Africa, the chancellor has said.

Speaking on yesterday's Andrew Marr Show, George Osborne said the foreign aid budget could ‘help councils with things like housing costs' as pressure grows to help the thousands of refugees flooding into eastern Europe.
