Reigate and Banstead BC has threatened to do legal battle against the health secretary, Patricia Hewitt, over the location of a new hospital.

In what would be a landmark case, the Surrey-based authority was due to decide as The MJ went to press whether to seek a judicial review of the minister's decision to site a new critical care hospital at St Helier.
