Are relationships the key to successful partnering?

A new concept called ‘relational partnering’ is behind a public private partnership initiative developed by Public Sector Plc [PSP] to unlock millions of pounds of funds from local authority assets. Its early adopters are nine councils who have formed the Local Government Council Consortium Group and recently debated the concept in a round table debate at the House of Lords. The concept of ‘relational partnering' may sound like a dating agency but in principle it is not hugely different. The idea is that instead of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) based on contracts, lowest costs and default clauses, PPPs can be founded on a relationship between public and private partners which is flexible and pro-active.

Funding is available for local authority property projects, especially where they relate to revenue-reducing or revenue-creating opportunities.
