The Government should go ‘for the jugular’ and replace the current two-tier system in England with a series of unitaries with elected mayors, according to one Tory MP.

The Government should go ‘for the jugular' and replace the current two-tier system in England with a series of unitaries with elected mayors, according to one Tory MP.

Speaking during a debate on elected mayors in Westminster Hall last week, Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers said the Government should not be trying to ‘encourage, support and cajole' councils into forming combined authorities.
