The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) must push for greater collaboration across Whitehall to ensure local authorities are effectively supported in delivering their care responsibilities, a public spending watchdog has urged.

In a report issued last week by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), senior MPs warned that relevant ministries did not know if the care system could be made more efficient and maintain real terms cutbacks while continuing to manage increased demand for care.
