Report recommends league tables to improve standards

League table ratings for Welsh councils are set to be introduced, in a bid to push forward improvements and measure standards.

In his Wales programme for improvement (WPI) annual report, auditor general ~Jeremy Colman~ said one advantage of the WPI framework for assessing local authority performance was flexibility. But he found that, because councils develop and use methods of risk assessment which best suit their individual needs, ‘it is difficult to assess them in the same way, and nearly impossible to compare them with each other on a consistent basis'.
