Despite his deprived town’s economy losing £100m from welfare changes alone on top of £70m cuts since 2010 Rotherham MBC chief executive Martin Kimber says his staff continue to remain upbeat as Michael Burton reports

While last week's Budget may suggest the national economy is on the mend the reality for many towns and cities is that local economies continue to be squeezed by a combination of recession and spending cuts.

Martin Kimber, the chief executive of Rotherham MBC, who describes the town as ‘deprived with pockets of affluence,' puts the cuts in stark perspective.
