Resilient and determined women make their mark

Ken Lyon reflects on the positive and long-lasting influence the sector’s most senior women officers have had on developing the next generation of chiefs.

We are in the dying embers of a decade which has seen unprecedented change and stress in local government and at a point where some of the ‘greats' – inspirational and successful leaders like Wendy Thomson and Jo Miller – are leaving the sector for different challenges.

It seems to be a time to reflect on just how blessed we are as a sector with women chief executives and senior leaders who have stepped up to the mark, demonstrating herculean powers of determination, skill and authenticity, delivering significant achievements in the face of adversity and challenge.
