Restructure planned as Brum chief steps down

Stephen Hughes is to retire as chief executive of Birmingham City Council as part of a mammoth restructure at the authority.

Under plans unveiled last week, the chief executive's post as it stands will no longer exist. Instead, the council has proposed a shift to three directorates – of people, places and economy.
