In recent years, local authority trading companies (LATCs) have become integral to public service delivery, reshaping the essential functions of councils. But as the number of these companies soars, understanding their impact on the workforce is critical.

Unison recently commissioned the Labour Research Department to examine how LATCs have affected staff pay, terms and conditions. Our report, Trading Places, will be published this month and offers crucial insights for council decision-makers, staff and the public when evaluating the true cost and effectiveness of trading companies.
