Revised guidelines for community groups defending local assets

New guidance issued on the community ‘right to buy' initiative will force local authorities to take seriously all viable requests for the compulsory purchase of threatened assets.

The scheme, contained in the Localism Bill, would give voluntary and community groups a foot in the door when campaigning to save much-loved but threatened local assets such as historic pubs, village shops or seaside piers, when their owners refuse to sell.
