Is it time to revisit Total Place?

Total Place began to drive real cross-sector (system) working, says Richard Stay. He believes the need for a focus on place has never been greater, and it’s arguably time to revisit and broaden the concept

Just a month into the coalition Government in 2010, The MJ and Capita hosted an event to discuss the previous Government's flagship local government project Total Place and what the prospects were for continuing the ‘work in progress'.

As it turned out, the prospects were not great and the concept of driving efficiencies through a focus on place, as opposed to organisational silos, was quietly rebranded and absorbed into the localism agenda.
