Reward neighbourhoods for cutting waste, urges think-tank

Councils should set goals for cutting waste and reward neighbourhoods for achieving their targets, a local government think-tank has claimed.

The New Local Government Network says potential cash incentives for households were, at around £30 a year, too low to change behaviour, so councils should look at a community-wide approach instead. Residents would then spend the money on their own priorities, such as refurbishing a local park or improving community safety measures.
