Un-ringfenced council spending risks transport plans, PAC says

A senior MP has warned national and regional transport objectives could be threatened by a lack of government oversight.

National and regional transport objectives could be threatened by a lack of government oversight over how local authorities spend un-ringfenced cash, a senior MP has warned.

Councils currently spend around £1.2bn of un-ringfenced transport cash a year and are due to receive responsibility for a further £1.1bn over fours years from 2015 under the devolution of major local transport schemes.
