The latest report of the Industrial Strategy Council (ISC), Devolution and Governance Structures in the UK, highlights the importance of ‘getting devolution right' to rebalance our economy and improve our system of multilevel governance.
Some of its findings echo the messages from other reports published over the past years: it is not a coincidence the UK is both one of the most regionally unequal and centralised countries in the developed world. Without a coherent, long-term devolution strategy regional divides will continue to grow and there won't be any ‘levelling up'. However, the work of the ISC adds to these debates, providing a roadmap to support and facilitate successful future devolution across the UK.
