The Ronaldo effect

No one individual is bigger than the organisation but in the time it takes to reach this conclusion a lot of damage can be done, says Blair Mcpherson.

Even if you play Sunday league you know that your top goal scorer, by far and away your teams best player, is not good for the team once they forget it's a team game. But it hard to accept you would be better off without them.

Yes they moan a lot. Yes, they are over critical of the less able and less committed members of the team. And yes they do think everyone should pass/defer to them all the time even when others are in a better position. They are opinionated and believe their status as top goal scorer means their views should count for more. As they are fond of telling everyone, who would score the goals if they weren't playing? This is where an experienced and confident manager acts and ‘encourages' the best player to leave despite the doom-sayers. In management circles this is currently referred to as the Cristiano Ronaldo Effect (CRE).
