Modern slavery is a scourge on our society, hidden in plain sight. It happens in places like nail bars, on farms, in the construction industry and in car washes. Tackling it should be a priority for everyone in the UK.
The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was groundbreaking. But while legislation was a necessary first step, it is not sufficient. Citizens, communities, businesses, voluntary and community sector groups and the state at every level can all contribute to a national effort to eliminate this illegal and unacceptable practice in our society.
